BEC + BRIDGE
AT AAFW

Sydney Australia, Monday 9th May, 7pm: BEC + BRIDGE unveiled their Resort 22/23 collection—TWENTY-ONE— Headlining AAFW on opening night, BEC + BRIDGE Presented by Afterpay was staged at Carriageworks in Gallery 1. The show marked the brand’s 21st anniversary with a collection that married archival silhouettes with nostalgic throwbacks from the brand’s late ‘90s roots, all reinterpreted through a super-modern lens.

"This year Bec + Bridge celebrates a milestone birthday, our twenty first lap around the sun. We launched in a cultural moment where low-rise jeans reigned supreme, when music festivals were at the centre of our social lives, and modern celebrity culture was still in its infancy. Paying tribute to that era, and to the fashion that shaped our youth, TWENTY-ONE pays homage to late ‘90s grunge and the supermodels that made the look iconic. Looking at the Bec + Bridge girl of then, and celebrating her evolution into the Bec + Bridge woman of today." Designers Bec Cooper and Bridget Yorston said.

Grunge-inspired tartan prints appear on bias cut georgette dresses, oversized tailoring is balanced with petite bralettes, corsets are offset with masculine silhouettes. TWENTY—ONE is a collection that plays with contradictions: grunge versus minimalism, obviousness versus subtly, sensuality versus austerity. She is everything all at once—was then, is now.
